Where women's pay trumps men's

Men and women's salaries have often been compared, and men have generally made more money then women while working the same jobs. Jeanne Sahadi of CNNMoney.com states several reasons why this may be the case, but then shows a list of 39 jobs that women make more money then men.
There are many factors that Sahadi gives for men receiving more pay then women, but here are a few of the main ones. Men have, on average, worked more hours on the job then women have, which is one factor that causes men to make more money then women. Also, men have been known to take a job that will make the relocate, or travel extensively for work. This is the case because women generally have to worry about their families and taking care of their children. Men will accept jobs that are more hazardous, and will work in tough working environments such as prisons or coal mines.
On the other hand, women are more likely to take jobs that are more fulfilling and have less risks, like teaching. Women that earn over $100,000 are also more likely to trade pay for more leisure. Some fields of work also offer women a premium when they take their job. A premium is when the women is offered a certain amount of money to accept the job on top of the salary that they will earn. Some jobs offer this premium to women because a company may need an incentive to hire a women to help it's equal opportunity standing, or simply the fact that the women can do a better job then a man can in that field. Women are known to be better in sales then men, as well as many other jobs. Here are some of the jobs where women make significantly more then men: Sales engineers (43% higher then men), legislatures (33% higher), mechanics (29% higher), library assistants (28% higher), and telephone operators (21% higher).
Those were just a few of the jobs that women receive higher pay then men, but give insight to the types of jobs that women are getting paid more for. Jobs that usually are considered a man's job, like a mechanic or engineer are paying women more for those jobs because they are looking for more women to work in these fields.

This is a great article, it shows that women do earn more than men for certain jobs. It also states that women perform better than men in certain jobs, which also accepts the possibility that the reverse is true for other jobs.

The entire 76 cents for each dollar earned by men is averaging across all possible education and experience. The statistic alone presents little information about the labor market. Here we see that for certain fields, women are simply more productive. And, therefore, paid more.
