U.S.seek Bank Records to Stop Terror
The article http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/10/national is about the U. S. seeking bank records to help the government deter terror attacks on our nation. U.S. Government should have access to bank records. The article talks about that there was $400,000 to $500,000 transfer to the hijackers for 9/11. It would need to be highly sercured and privacy must be respected but safety of our country is important also, laundering money for an indicent act whether for terroresdt of drug dealing is illegal and needs to be address. I understand to confessing and hardship that this would cause the bank but we all should be willing to do our part whether it in monitoring money or teach our children right from wrong. People who complaining or willing to progrees with the issue of homeland security for any country should be looked at and considered as a treat. Banks should welcome the governments willingness to institigate a program to prevent terrorist from happening again to the U. S. and or any other country. It might be troublesome for banks but any U. S. citizen would be willing to wait a little longer in line or do more sercurity measure to ensure our safety. Every person, groups and country could have morals and if government asses to bank record would help to stop the funding of these people we should all be willing to help.

I do believe that certain things should be done to stop terrorism, but I do not believe the government should be able to look at our private lives. This is a free country the last time I looked.

I feel that security has a cost. The cost in this case is that the government has access to what some feel should be "private info". This is a small price to pay for additional security/ safety. I support the governments effort to keep my family safe.

The government only looks into what they suspect to be illegal. Banks are given rules and laws to follow concerning this problem, and the government being allowed to look into situations where money is being used for terrorism is part of those laws.

I feel that we should be okay with the government to look at our bank records to a certain extent, but only for our saftey in the near future. We shouldn't care because it is not like the government is taking more money from us.

I was unable to access the article cited in your post, however, I would like to comment on the topic. I don't have a problem with the government having access to our "private" information in the name of national security. The ability of the government to intervene in potential illegal and/or terrorist situations outweighs my right to keep my financial information "private".

I do agree that the U.S. government should have access to bank records. That way when larges transfer like the ones made to the hijakers of 9/11. The government can investigate the transfers and the people invovled with them to make sure that there is no worry doing going on.Putting a stop to another 9/11 here in the states or in another country before a large number of innocent people are killed.

Privacy and security are too very big issues. When allowing the government or some entity to monitor monetary transactions or bank records, you have to be careful not to simply impose this search on everyone. The Constitution prohibits unlawful searches, so the government should not be able to look without a solid reason.
When we wire money where I work, we don't have to record information on all transactions - just those that COULD be criminal. There is a set of rules/laws that must be followed in doing so, and only certain people are able to access that information. As long as it is done with discretion and the government doesn't just blindly start watching people, than I have no problem with it.
