WTO 5th Ministerial Conference
The World Trade Organization (WTO) had its 5th Ministerial Conference on September 14. During the meeting Minister Luis Ernesto Derdez decided that it would not be possible reach a consensus , then closed the meeting. The purpose of the meeting was to bring together Ministers from 146 members to review progress on the Doha Development Agenda. It also welcomed Cambodia and Nepal into their organization. The WTO held one of the most successful meeting. They discussed media updates and a full NGO program of activities. The Canadian participated in the briefing by watching it by teleconference which is viewing them by watching the daily webcast on the Department's website. Although Canada was disappointed with the result, the experience with Cancun had developed clarity to the members.
