Unhappily Better Off
Why don't we feel happier than our ancestors? The typical American place a dwelling on things that our ancestors did not. For example, Americans are spending most of their money on cars, clothing, houses and things that we just desire. Author Virging Postnel observes that two generation ago that everybody, rather than 14 percent who lacked health insurance and that only the wealthy knew protection against ruinous medical expenses. In today’s society medical spending is rising because we are more concern with our health. Today technology has changed and we as Americans should be grateful. We need to adopt a system. There everyone should get things of their need.

We may not feel happier than our ancestors but we feel unhappier a lot longer than they did. I blame medical costs rising on having a specialized doctor for every ailment. In the old days we had one general practitioner, today we have a doctor for the left nostril and one for the right nostril. Sometimes I wish I didnt have health insurance - I really cant afford it (if that makes sense).

Being someone who just started getting health insurance away from my parents I understand that it is expensive but i also understand that I have to have it. It is more expensive to not have insurance that to have it. I went to pick up a prescription the other day and with out my insurance it would have cost me 50.00 but because I had insurance it was only 9.00. That's a big difference. Although I like alot of Americans live paycheck to paycheck there are a lot of worse things I could spend my money on. Therefore, I am pretty happy with my healthcare.

I think the answer to that question most likely goes much deeper than health insurance. I feel the reason most people don't feel happier than our ancestors is because it takes more to satisfy people these days. Yes, we do have issues, like rising health care cost, that use to not be an issue, but there were also a lot of other things that they had to deal with then that we don't have to today.
