UN Court
A Rwandan army officer, Lt. Col. Aloys Simba, is accused of murders and other crimes against Tutsis and Hutus in Rwanda in 1994. Bongani Majola, U.N. Deputy Prosecutor, said that the 61-year-old Simba reitred from the army, but he acted as if he was still in the office. There were a large number of militias, police, and civilians who were under his authority. These people helped with the murders. Mr. Simba was a friend of President Juvenal Habyarimana. The prosecution believes Mr. Simba had influence with the President. The prosecution believes that Mr. Simba personally killed unarmed Tutsi civilians and was also involved in resupplying weapons with local militias. Before the murder, Mr. Simba is accused of telling the Tusis to leave the country. Mr. Simba has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder. Approximately 800,000 people were murdered in three months in 1994.
